Home care that starts tomorrow
Understanding the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
An entry-level government-funded program to support older people
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is a government program that supports older people who are still managing well at home, but want some extra assistance, such as accessing the community, respite care, or personal care. The service is subsidised by government and you may be required to contribute help around the house to the cost of your care.
Many people use CHSP when they need low-level support. As their needs become more intensive or complex, requiring some case management assistance, they can be referred for a Home Care Package.
Recently, the government has made available CHSP services to many consumers waiting on a home care package. Southern Plus is able to assist clients with putting services in place.Â
What services does CHSP provide?
Southern Plus offers a range of home and community care services under CHSP including:
Social support – social activities in a community-based group setting, Day Centre programs at our community respite centres in Forrestfield and Hilton.
Transport – help to get out and about for shopping or appointments
Domestic assistance – household jobs like cleaning, clothes washing and ironing
Personal care – help with bathing or showering, dressing, hair care and going to the toilet
Respite care – supporting carers by providing respite care options
