Kalgoorlie team wins Regional Achievement and Community Award

We have just received some exciting news for our Southern Cross Care Victoria Park Nursing Home in Kalgoorlie… The team was announced the winner at the Regional Achievement and Community Award on the 20th of October 2017. The award was for Prime Super Employee Excellence in Aged Care, which supports working parents re-entering the workforce.

The team introduced flexible working arrangements, in-house child care and up-skill opportunities to boost its workforce – ensuring it not only meets the needs of the Home’s residents but also prepares for the increased demands anticipated on the aged care industry.

Thanks to the range of flexible training, study and working options the Victoria Park team now includes one clinical nurse, two registered nurses and five enrolled nurses, in addition to the rest of the 57 permanent staff.

When introducing the changes, the team recognised that up-skilling, making allowances for family requirements and supporting staff in these emotionally and physically strenuous positions are key to ensuring the industry serves the Australian population well.

SCC’s General Manager Service Delivery, Carole Bain, said the award was well deserved and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the broader value the team is providing to the community.

“I’m proud to say that our wonderful team is passionate about our residents, and the broader Kalgoorlie community,” said Carole.

“The initiatives they have put in place ensure that we continue to meet our residents’ needs, while demonstrating a practical and sustainable contribution to regional Western Australia.

“We want to empower parents to reenter the workforce; they have a great deal to contribute and we are keen to harness their ability and dedication.”

Victoria Park Facility Manager Cheryl Hahn said the win is a reflection on the passion, dedication and effort that every SCC employee brings to their job every day.

“Our team is fantastic and every day my staff come in to work and do their best to provide a comfortable and caring environment for our residents,” said Cheryl.

“Working in small towns can be very difficult if you are working parent, and even harder if you want to study and up-skill. I am so happy that we have come up with ways to both ensure we have got an ongoing skilled team but also support these hardworking parents to be active community members.”

Congratulations, from all of us at Southern Cross Care, to the team at Victoria Park Nursing Home in Kalgoorlie.
